2017 Walt Disney World Pressed Coins – Follow Up

** See below for contest to win a free set of 2017 WDW coins **

For those of you that read my original post with the concept design pictures of the new 2017 pressed coin designs this is a quick follow-up.  Shortly after that post I was contacted by a representative at CTM Group (The Pennymen), and we traded a few messages back and forth.  They were nice enough to offer a copy of the entire set of coins fresh from the machines throughout the resort so I could post pictures of the actual coins.

2017-all-coins

Above is a picture of all the coins together.  There are the same number as last year but I think the designs this year have definitely gone up in detail.

2017-pennies

Here I have a picture of all the penny designs together.

2017-quarters

Next are all the quarter designs.

2017-penny-numbered-set

The picture above shows a close up of a cool little sub-set within the 2017 dates set.  Each theme park had one design with Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey in the middle, and an icon from each park above his head.  For Epcot there is Spaceship Earth, Animal Kingdom has the Tree of Life, Hollywood Studios has The Tower of Terror, and the Magic Kingdom of course has Cinderella’s Castle.  These four designs are a numbered set which is listed directly on each coin.

2017-favorite

All of these designs are really nice this year, but I must say the one listed above is my personal favorite.  When I first saw it I just thought it was fantastic.  This design is located in the Magic Kingdom at the Main Street Railroad Station.  It’s cool that all four of the park iconic symbols are all on one coin along with the 2017 year.  This is really a great way to start off the new year.

Obviously these will be around for the entire year, but do not hesitate to get yourself a set.  These are a great addition to any collection and will be gone before you know it.

**Thank you to the CTM Group team for all their work on these new designs, and for taking the time to reach out.  It was very much appreciated!

CONTEST:
This is a chance for you to get a complete set of the 2017 Coins listed above.  This will include all 15 coins (8 Pennies and 7 Quarters).

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin – Magic Kingdom, FL

My back and neck were still a little stiff from my Speedway drive with Hanna, but that wouldn’t stop us from continuing on through Tomorrowland.  I’m not a Space Mountain fan but some of my family are so we made a stop for them to get their fix.  Once that was done we headed over to an attraction more my speed and enjoyable for the kids.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.  Now I was concerned when I first rode this years ago because the famous Tea Cups are my worst nightmare.  I hate being dizzy and with Spin in the title of this attraction had me worried.  But it’s nothing like the Tea Cups.  This is really more like laser tag but you are sitting in a ride vehicle taking you through the alien attack and you need to zap as many evildoers as you can.

buzz-space-ranger-spin-02

You accumulate points for each alien you zap and at the end it’s always fun to see your final score ranked against the rest of your family.  Once the ride is over you exit into a photo preview room where you can see your picture mid-ride along with your final scores.  Then just beside the exit doors is another new 8-design touch screen machine.

buzz-space-ranger-01

This is the same price as the others, 1 design for $1 or all 8 for $5.  This machine also supplies the blank tokens that the designs are pressed on.

buzz-lightyear-pennies

This set included a lot of Buzz Lightyear with a few other characters.  They include images of Little Green Toy Alien, Buzz Flying to the Right, Buzz with his Arms Raised, Buzz Pointing to the Sky, Buzz Flying straight Ahead, Buzz Space Ranger Spin Logo, Buzz with his Arms crossed, and Evil Zurg.  Wow that’s a lot of Buzz!

It was getting dark and the kids (and adults) were starting to get cranky so it was our queue to head back to our resort to rest.  But I promise there were many more penny machines to find and I’ll walk you by all of them.

Tomorrowland Speedway – Magic Kingdom, FL

I remember as a kid visiting the Magic Kingdom and wanting to ride in the race cars that go around the track.  It was my first taste of freedom on the open road, except of course for the bar in the middle of my tires preventing me from crashing off the road. I eventually found it funny to purposely jerk the steering wheel to the left or right so the car jolted against the rail and watching my father try to prevent whiplash.

indy-speedway-01

The Tomorrowland Speedway is just plain fun or least I remember it being that way.  On our recent trip I decided to take my daughter Hanna on this ride and I think she tried to pull the same stunt I did with my father.  After we got out of the ride my neck was stiff and my back needed realigning.  Darn the bar in the middle of the road.

indy-speedway-02

With a chiropractic visit needed I slowly wandered away from the Speedway as if we were heading towards Space Mountain.  Just past the Speedway there are some souvenir carts around and this is where we found one of the newly placed penny machines.

indy-speedway-machine-01

As you can see this is a 4-design hand crank model which at Disney are pretty rare, and after my drive with Hanna using this machine was going to be a bit of work.

indy-speedway-pennies

The pressed pennies dropped out and had some nice updated designs on them.  This set had Pluto with a Trophy, Minnie in a Speedway Car, Race Car Driver Mickey, and Mickey with a Checkered Flag.

With my new pennies stored away we headed further into Tomorrowland to see what we could do next, and I’m sure you can guess there were more pennies to be found.

Splash Mountain – Magic Kingdom, FL

My family got back from a Wedding in October that was held at the Grand Floridian hotel on Walt Disney World properly in Florida.  We took the opportunity to extend this trip into a week-long vacation.  As you can probably imagine I took every opportunity I could to visit the parks and collect some pressed coins.  Mostly I was updating my picture collection of the machines, also updating some coins that I had collected years ago and were in need of a fresh pressing.  I’ll go over all of my adventures in some upcoming posts, but for now I wanted to review some of the new machines that were recently made available.  First up let’s check out the Magic Kingdom.

mk-castle-halloween

We visited the Magic Kingdom twice on this visit, and one of those times was to attend the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  Above is the Castle all lit up for the party.

splash-mountain-01

Back on our non-party visit we started bright and early with Splash Mountain.  I’m sure most of you know about this ride whether you love it or hate it the adventures of Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox is definitely a classic.

splash-mountain-02

This is not usually a ride I enjoy as the stomach in my throat feeling is not my favorite sensation.  But this year my daughter Hanna was old enough and wanted to try it out so I obliged.  I’ll spare her the embarrassment of posting our ride photo here but needless to say she wasn’t a fan this time around.  Once your ride is over you walk by the Splashdown Photo Preview area where you can get a glimpse of your ride photo.  While we waited for our photo to show up I took the opportunity to use the penny machine located right next to the preview screens.

splashdown-preview-01

On a side note for those of you that don’t want to ride Splash Mountain you can still access this machine.  You just have to walk back through the gift shop and will find it near the large crowd looking at their ride pictures.

splashdown-photos-pennies

Earlier this year this machine had one of the 2016 yearly design pennies available, but recently this coin has been removed.  The above designs are what you will find there for now: Mickey/Pluto/Donald/Goofy riding Splash Mountain, Minnie splashing water on Mickey, and Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear riding Splash Mountain.

Now you remember me just talking about a gift shop?  That’s right what Disney ride would be complete without forcing you to exit through a gift shop full of wonderful souvenirs you just can’t live without.  In my case this wasn’t a t-shirt or snow globe but instead a new 8-Design penny machine.

splashdown-preview-02

I was amazed at how many of these new touch screen machines there were throughout all the parks.  The price has gone up a bit, and you can’t supply your own pennies but I still think the tokens these machines use are pretty nice and make for a nice finished product.

splashdown-pennies

The pressed coins here were of Big Thunder Mountain, Frontierland Mickey/Donald/Goofy, Splash Mountain Donald/Goofy/Pluto/Mickey, Br’er Bear, Br’er Rabbit, Mickey & Goofy riding Splash Mountain, Br’er Fox, and Mr. Bluebird.  When you exit the gift shop with your pocket jingling with new pressed coins there is a large set of restrooms nearby and just a short walk back towards the entrance to Splash Mountain takes you underneath the Frontierland Railroad Station.

railroad-machine-01

On this trip was the first time I was actually able to use this machine as it always seems to be broken for some reason.  I always loved this machine’s cabinet design.

frontierland-railroad-pennies

The designs are sticking with our friends in the briar patch: Br’er Vulture, Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Bear.  With our clothes soaking wet we met up with the rest of our family to see where we were off to next.  Check back often as there are many more pressed penny machines to visit.

2017 Walt Disney World Pressed Coins

We are just a couple of days away from a brand new year and just this evening I was browsing some websites and came across an early surprise.  On one of my trips to WDW last year I noticed that a lot of the pressed coin machines had a website address listed to get the most up to date locations of all the machines across property.  I took a picture so I wouldn’t forget about it when I came home.

IMG_5483

This website has become just another routine I go through a few times a week.  I check out the website to see if anything has changed, moved or best of all a new machine is available.  Just a short while ago I was checking out the website and almost fell off my couch when I started to see new 2017 coins all around the parks.  Unfortunately I am not currently near Orlando and won’t be for a few weeks so I cannot actually confirm that these machines are up and running.  But I’m sending out requests to friends in the area to try to get pictures but most importantly press these beautiful new coins.  As I acquire the coins I’ll update this post with the actual pictures, but for now I wanted to share the images that are available on the above CTM Group website.

mk-emporium-2017   mk-sir-mickeys-2017

These first two coins are available in the Magic Kingdom.  The penny on the left is in the Emporium Store, and the penny on the right is at the Sir Mickey’s Gift Shop.

ept-disney-traders-2017   ept-mouse-gears-2017   ept-the-land-2017-qtr

The next three coins are located in Epcot.  The penny on the left is from the Disney Traders Gift Shop, the penny in the middle from the huge Mouse Gears Gift Shop, and the quarter on the right is from The Land Pavilion near the Garden Grill Restaurant.

hs-stage-one-muppet-store-2017-qtr

Over at Hollywood Studios there is just one coin listed at this time.  It’s available at what I call the Muppet’s Gift Shop but is technically referred to as the Stage One Company Store.

ak-chester-hester-2017   ak-wildlife-express-2017-qtr

Located in Animal Kingdom are the next couple coins.  The penny on the left is at Chester and Hester’s in Dinoland USA.  The quarter on the right is at the Wildlife Express Train Station.

rst-contemporary-resort-2017-qtr   rst-contemporary-resort-2017

The last batch of coins are available at various resorts.  However the resort locations have not changed from last year.  At the Contemporary Resort are the above two coins and are right near the Monorail station.

rst-grand-floridian-2017

A quick Monorail trip over to the Grand Floridian will get you to the next machine.  It’s still located on the second floor just inside the doors that lead to the Monorail station.

rst-all-star-music-2017-qtr   rst-all-star-sports-2017-qtr

Finally the last two quarters are over at the All-Star Resorts.  If you aren’t staying at these resorts they can be a bit out of the way to get.  The quarter on the left of Goofy is over at the All-Star Music resort just outside the Note’Able Games Arcade.  The quarter on the right of Donald is at the All-Star Sports resort outside the Game Point Arcade.

UPDATE:

hs-rock-around-the-shop-2017 mk-ms-train-station-2017-qtr

Found images of the “last” two 2017 designs that will be available.  I’m just assuming they are sticking with the 15 designs but we can always hope for more.  The above penny on the left is located at Hollywood Studios in the Rock Around the Shop, and the quarter on the right is in the Magic Kingdom at the Main Street Train Station.

Happy collecting, and have a great New Years!!

Virtual Magic Kingdom – VMK

In my never-ending quest for all things pressed coins I sometimes come across something that I’ve never seen before.  On a recent hunt through eBay I was just seeing what was out there I came across just such an item, and I had to buy it and then immediately do some research.  The item in question was the below collectible card.

vmk-penny-press-card-front   vmk-penny-press-card-back

On the left is the front of the card and the right image is the back.  I thought this was kind of a cool and unique collectible but was intrigue with what game this was actually from.  As you can see on the card it listed VMK along the sides, and on the back at the bottom was a link to a website VMK.com.  Unfortunately this link doesn’t work and just reroutes you to the Disney Online Games website instead.  But with some google searches I was able to find out some more information.

vmklogo

VMK stands for Virtual Magic Kingdom and was a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) was a virtual representation of the Disneyland Theme park.  It was initially launched as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Disneyland but had no long-term intentions when initially released.  It first became available in 2005 with three virtual lands to explore: Main Street USA, Fantasyland, and Adventureland.  Then over the next couple years additional lands were made available like Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and New Orleans Square.

vmk-map

In the game you were able to create an avatar to wonder the streets of Disneyland and interact with other players, and play mini-games based on the popular Theme Park attractions.

vmk-jungle-cruise

Places like the Jungle Cruise (shown above) were available over in Adventureland.

vmk-haunted-mansion

Or the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square.

vmk-splash-mountain

Get soaked on Splash Mountain going through the Briar Patch over in Frontierland.

vmk-club-33

They even had the super exclusive Club 33 for a special event.  Now back to my original find the collector card with the penny press on it.  I scoured every corner of the internet I could access trying to find an in-game picture or screen shot showing the machine but just couldn’t find anything.

vmk-main-street

At one point I did think I was on to something.  When I found the above map of Main Street I noticed the Penny Arcade was an area to explore.  Eventually I did find a picture of the inside of the arcade.

vmk-penny-arcade

For those of you that have visited Disneyland in Anaheim this is the jackpot (or at least it used to be I haven’t been in a while) for penny press machines.  But sadly as you can see in the above picture the penny machines are nowhere to be found.

Continuing on the sad note this game was actually shut down in May 2008.  This is really unfortunately as the more I researched this the more I wanted to play.  I’m also surprised I never knew about this.  Sorry to string you along and then drop the bomb that you can’t actually play this anymore, but you never know maybe Disney can bring it back.  There are quite a few fan sites out there with great information and details on the game.  I just thought it was really cool to have a digital version of a penny machine inside a video game.  My imagination is racing as to what the coin designs would have been and if they changed on a regular basis.  Hopefully someone out there knows and can share with us.  Virtual pressed coins sound like a futuristic new idea especially if pennies become extinct…gasp!

Flashback – 100 Years of Magic 2002 WDW

Every few years Disney has a celebration that extends through the theme parks and of course their merchandise.  Thankfully for us pressed coin collectors this can also mean special limited designs are available for only a few months or if we are lucky up to a year.  With some of the new coins for this year already showing up I have noticed that 2016 apparently is the year Disney will celebrate Music, Magic and Memories.

This got me thinking about another celebration that was going on during one of my visits to Walt Disney World.  As we flashback to 2002 the resort was celebrating 100 Years of Magic.  This was to commemorate 100 years since Walt’s birth.

I visited the resort in the summer of 2002 just on a small vacation with some friends. In preparing for this post I went through some old pictures trying to find anything that had the 100 Years of Magic designs but couldn’t find anything.  However what does stick in my mind was the huge assortment of pressed quarters that were available throughout the theme parks and resorts.  I must admit that at this time I wasn’t as obsessed with collecting pressed coins and would only use my spare change to pick a few random designs, and this pains me to this day.  Especially as I look back at this special set which I really think was a great collection.  I only picked up a few of the coins during that trip, and the years since I have spent trying to fill in the missing designs.

IMG_8665

In total there were about 50 designs available during this celebration.  As you can see from the above picture I have 11 so far, but I keep searching and trading whenever I come across another design needed to finish this set.  I’m not sure what it is exactly about this set, but I just really enjoy it and think the designs are great.

IMG_8666

These designs covered all aspects of the parks as well as each resort and other areas of the property.  The above design was what I considered the main design for the celebration.  It has Mickey sitting on top of the 100 Years of Magic logo.

IMG_8667

One of my personal favorites the monorail was also available to press.  Another nice detail on each of these coins is the established date.  Monorail Est 1971.

IMG_8668

Here is definitely a flashback, Pleasure Island Est 1989.  For those young ones out there this is the original Downtown Disney area.  I remember after a certain time of night you had to show ID that you were over 21 to access the numerous clubs and bars.  Next up the resorts.

I still have quite a way to go before completing this set, but the hunting and searching is part of the fun.  Be on the lookout whenever you are out collecting for special edition designs you just never know when you may come across them.  However make sure you have enough pocket change to get the entire set because you just never know when you may be able to find those coins again.

2016 WDW Pennies & Quarters

They’re here!!!

It’s that time of year again and Walt Disney World has released their new 2016 pressed penny and quarter designs at various locations throughout the resort.  Just like last year they have released 15 designs in total.

2016 WDW Complete Set

As you can see above there is a nice variety of designs including the famous Disney Characters, the castle and even the ones with just the 2016 year listed.

2016 WDW Pennies All

Here is a shot of just the penny designs which just like last year have 8 designs in total, and below is a picture of the 7 quarter designs.

2016 WDW Quarters Complete

Now let me go over each individual coin so you can see a close up and I’ll review where to find each one.

2016 Magic Kingdom Penny 02

First up we will visit the Magic Kingdom where you can find 4 of these designs.  The picture above is of Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey with his hands outstretched is pressed on a penny and available at Sir Mickey’s Store near Cinderella’s Castle.

2016 Magic Kingdom Penny 03

The penny on the left is of Cinderella’s Castle and can be found at the Emporium on Main Street.

2016 Magic Kingdom Penny 01

The third design is also on a penny and shows Apprentice Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto surrounding the 2016.  This penny is available at the Splashdown Photos Preview at the end of Splash Mountain (Tip: You don’t need to actually go on the ride but can walk back trough the gift shop towards the exit of Splash Mountain to access this machine).

2016 Magic Kingdom QTR 01

The only 2016 quarter design available in the Magic Kingdom can be found at the Main Street Railroad Station at the bottom of the stairs.  The image is of Cinderella’s Castle above the 2016.

2016 Epcot Penny

Over at Epcot they have two designs available.  The first is located in the huge Mouse Gears gift shop in Future World.  The penny had Apprentice Mickey controlling the waves surrounding him.

2016 Epcot QTR

A short walk over towards The Land is where you will find the second coin at Epcot.  It’s located right outside the Garden Grill revolving restaurant and has Donald with a Tuba wrapped around his neck.

2016 Animal Kingdom Penny

At the Animal Kingdom park the penny design is available at Chester & Hester’s Dino Treasures.  Are you noticing a theme here?  This design also has an image of Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey with his magic wand.

2016 Animal Kingdom QTR

The second coin is available at the Harambe Railway Station.  Here you will find the quarter design which has Pluto playing a saxophone.

2016 Hollywood Studios Penny

So far Disney hasn’t released the new name of this park so for now I’m still going to call it Hollywood Studios.  This park also has two designs available.  The first is a penny located at the Prop Shop along with about 12 other machines (not really but pretty close).  This is a nice image of 2016 with the Sorcerer’s Hat on top of the zero.

HS - Mickeys of Hollywood 2016 QTR

UPDATED: This quarter design is in a machine that was originally located at the Mickeye’s of Hollywood store, but was moved to the Pizza Planet in Hollywood Studios.  My friend was able to find the machine at the Pizza Planet but recently it seems to have gone missing.  If any of you have been keeping up with Disney renovation news the Pizza Planet is about to be closed down (maybe moved) to make room for the new Star Wars and Toy Story lands.

2016 Contemporary Resort Penny

Time to ride the monorail.  First stop is the Contemporary Resort, and the awesome wall of pressed coin machines located on the 4th floor concourse directly below the monorail platform.  The penny design has 2016 in the middle surrounded by 6 different Disney characters.

2016 Contemporary Resort QTR

The machine with the quarter design is also located on the 4th floor concourse.  This is a really nice coin.  2016 is in the middle and surrounded by Music, Magic, Memories (2016’s theme) and a banner that says Where magic lives.

2016 Grand Floridian Resort Penny

Three monorail stops later and we are at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.  Taking the monorail will have you on the exact floor of the resort you need to be for the penny machine.  It’s located on the 2nd floor Lobby and has an image of Goofy playing a drum.

2016 All-Star Sports QTR

These last two will require a trip on a bus (or take your car) over to the All-Star Resorts.  The first stop is at the All-Star Sports Resort to find the above quarter design located at the Game Point Arcade.  The image is of Minnie Mouse playing a Bass Violin.

2016 All-Star Music QTR

Just one resort over and you arrive at the All-Star Music Resort.  The quarter machine is located at the Note-able Games Arcade and shows Daisy playing a violin.

Whew!!  That’s the whole set for this year, and as I said last year it looks like they are really trying to up the ante each year which I think is completely awesome.  I like that there are no duplicate designs this year and can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the year.

WDW Trip Day 7 – Magic Kingdom Take 2

Just as a quick disclaimer, on this second trip to the Magic Kingdom there was only one machine I needed to check out so most of this post is going to be non-pressed penny related (Gasp!).

On our second day in Florida when we first visited Magic Kingdom there was a machine in the Emporium on Main Street that was out-of-order when I tried to use it.  I had sent a TXT to the number on the plaque, and I don’t want to take full credit for it but the machine was working this time, so I’ll take the credit anyways.

Emporium 02

I didn’t update the picture when I went to use the machine, but I can say it was working perfectly.  There were 3 designs: 2015 Cinderella’s Castle, Sorcerer Mickey, and Anna & Elsa standing back to back.  That was the last one, I had managed to visit every machine I had on my lists and only the one in Downtown Disney at Cirque du Soleil was the only one I couldn’t get.  I was having mixed emotions (I really need help) because I was excited to have collected 99% of what I had come for, but on the flip side I was done for this trip and would have to wait until next time for more.

I put that aside for now and wanted to just enjoy our last full day as much as I could.  We had spent the night before making a list of the rides we wanted to do and with that in had headed to our first stop.  A great perk we had this day was that by staying at one of the resorts we were able to take advantage of the extra magic hour.  This allowed resort guests to access the Magic Kingdom 1 hour before it opens to the general public.  This really was a great time to get on and off as many rides as we could before the crowds and wait times really got crazy.

With our hit list in hand we made a our way onto rides with very little wait and would quickly get on the next closest ride on our list.  We bounced from Peter Pan’s Flight, to It’s a Small world, then The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid, and back to one of our all time favorites the Haunted Mansion.

IMG_5447

Are we going down?  Or is the room stretching up?  I’m still not 100% sure, but love this ride either way.  Next up we headed into Frontierland and took the train over to the Fantasyland station.  There we jumped on Goofy’s The Barnstormer roller coaster.

IMG_5916

Next we went back on the famous Dumbo ride for one last trip with our favorite elephant.  Then we went over to the Tomorrowland Speedway so Hanna could try her hand at driving (It’s didn’t go so well but thankful for the center rail keeping our car on the road).  After that we headed back on the Carousel for another ride on the horses.

IMG_5928

I sat the next ride out which was never one I overly enjoyed.  The Mad Tea Party with those spinning tea cups, yikes I’m getting nauseous just thinking about them.  The kids like the spinning but I think the adults kept it to a minimum just to make sure no one got too dizzy.

IMG_5931

Now that everyone was walking sideways trying to stop their heads from spinning we had our first Fasspass of the day.  We headed over to the Princess Fairytale Hall to meet who else but Anna and Elsa from Frozen.  This was another great moment of our trip that I hope the kids will remember when they are older.  We first met with Queen Elsa and really too her time with our kids and spoke directly to them not to us adults.  She signed our autograph books and took a lot of great pictures.

MK_PFTHBLUEA1CHAR_7266239357

Located on the opposite side of the room we got to meet Princess Anna.  She was also very nice and spent a lot of time with our kids.  She was very sweet and told a lot of cute jokes and told us stories about Olaf.  The kids were really excited by this time and it took a little work to get them all together for some pictures, but we managed to get some really great shots.

MK_PFTHBLUEA2CHAR_7266243076

We were sad to say goodbye to both Elsa and Anna but they had many more guests to visit with and we were really happy with the time we got to spend with them.  Another highly recommending thing to do if you or your kids are Frozen fans.  By this time it was almost lunch time so we headed to the Liberty Tree Tavern which we luckily had a reservation for.

After eating our lunch we headed over to use our last Fasspass for the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride.  The only disadvantage of having the Fasspass is we walked right through the queue and didn’t have much time to see all the details you would usually get to experience while waiting in line.  We got right on and have a great time.  The only issue is the ride is really short, but still a lot of fun and I think our niece Ava enjoyed it too.

IMG_5819

With the last ride on our list checked off we were ready for some much needed rest.  It had been a busy day and as much as we would have loved to stay all night in the park it just wasn’t feasible with the kids (and adults) utterly exhausted.

Later that evening after we had rested and had dinner in our room I took Hanna for one last trip around the monorail.  We stopped and got off at each monorail resort just to walk around and enjoy what we could before having to leave.  During our first stop at the Polynesian Village of course had to get one last treat as well.

IMG_5839

Mmmm…Dole Whip!  As we made our way around the last few stops on the monorail before heading back to our resort I sat with Hanna and thought about the truly amazing trip we had.  We were so thankful to be able to have the whole family together and with all the pictures, videos (and pennies) I’m sure we will be able to enjoy the memories for a long time.

IMG_5848

Until next time Disney, thanks for a great time!

WDW Trip Day 2 – Magic Kingdom

For our first full day in Orlando we were headed to the Magic Kingdom.  We had a character breakfast scheduled at the Crystal Palace with Winnie the Pooh and his friends.  However we got to the park earlier than expected (thank you Monorail), and my sister and brother-in-law wanted to hit up Space Mountain.  After getting through security and using our MagicBands to enter we were immediately greeted at the town square by Pluto and Minnie Mouse.  Unfortunately the line for Minnie Mouse was huge so we wait for Pluto.

While my family waited for Pluto I quickly ran into the Main Street Train Station to use the two machines located inside.  They are located on the street level behind the stairs to go up to the platform.

MS Train Station 01  MS Train Station 02

The penny machine I had already acquired the designs and just need a picture of the machine.  The quarter machine did have one of the new 2015 designs with Cinderella’s Castle.  I pressed this coin and made my way back over to Pluto just in time for my daughter to meet him and get his autograph.

MK_TWNSQR_7258384409

After Pluto my family started heading up Main Street and I quickly headed over to the Main Street Firehouse and got an updated picture of the machine that was put back on display here.  It has been there a few years ago during my last visit but had been taken away for some reason.

This machine has 3 designs each with different Dalmatians from what else the Disney classic 101 Dalmatians.  I already had these designs but pressed new ones since my originals were on old dirty coins before I was a little more picky about what I used.

I walked quickly to catch up with my family just in time to take a picture of all of us in front of Cinderella’s castle.  Then we headed into Tomorrowland and up to Space Mountain.  My wife and I are not big ride people so my sister and brother-in-law went ahead by themselves.  My parents were watching the kids plan with a cast member shooting bubbles into the air and this was keeping them quite entertained.  I headed into the Space Mountain gift shop for the next machine on my list.

Space Mountain

There are actually 3 machines located inside this store and one of them actually presses dimes which is unique.  Two of the machines hadn’t changed so I only need the quarter machine.  The 3 designs are all Space Mountain themed and look really great on the larger size quarters.  Next I headed across the courtyard to Mickey’s Star Trader.

Mickey's Star Trader

This was another quarter machine with 3 designs.  The designs included 2 Tomorrowland images and one of Zurg from Toy Story.  I crossed through this store and out the back towards the Indy Speedway where another machine was close by.

Indy Speedway

Unlike most of the machines in WDW that are electric and just require your money and the press of a button this was a hand crank machine with 4 designs.  These designs were also very detailed and included racing themes with Goofy, Mickey, Minnie and the Indy Speedway logo.  Hoping my family wasn’t waiting around for me I quickly headed back towards Space Mountain but found the kids were still playing with the bubbles and my sister was just exiting the ride.  They took a picture on their phone of their official Space Mountain photo and after we laughed for a good couple of minutes we figured it was time to head back for our Breakfast reservation.

The Crystal Palace is a pretty standard breakfast buffet with the usual Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, omelet station, etc.  But who are we kidding we were really there to see Pooh and his Friends.

During the course of our breakfast we met Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet.  Their interaction with the kids was really great and we were able to get some fantastic pictures.  Now that we had filled up our gas tanks we were ready to start exploring the rest of the park.

We started in Adventureland and jumped on the Jungle Cruise.  With the Jungle Cruise successfully completed I crossed the path to the restroom area know as the Verandah Breezeway.  There is a machine over here that was calling my name.

Verandah Breezeway

The machine had a new Frozen design that I already had collected but needed an updated picture for my files.  The designs include the Adventureland logo, Olaf from Frozen, and the Jungle Cruise boat.

After that we headed towards Aladdin’s magic carpet ride.  My family waited inline for the ride and just as they got on and started flying an announcement was made that they were coming down for some reason.  Not sure if the ride malfunctioned or not, but they were escorted towards the exit but asked not to leave they would be put back on in a few minutes.  I took this opportunity to cut through a pathway over to Frontierland where the Shooting Arcade was located.  I used to love this as a kid and remember my grandfather pumping quarters into it for me.  There are two machines located here.

Shooting Arcade 01  Shooting Arcade 02

The first machine had classic face designs of Mickey, Donald and Goofy.  The second machine has Cowboy Mickey, Woody from Toy Story, and Cowboy Donald.  I headed back towards the Aladdin ride and found my family still waiting to get back on the ride.  I took this opportunity to check out something I had been told about but in all my visits never tried yet.  Dole Whip!  All I have to say is WOW, I don’t know how I ever missed this before.

dolewhipfloat

From my understanding Dole Whip is a non-dairy ice cream like concoction.  The original flavor was Pineapple, but I believe you can now get orange.  I didn’t even bother with the other flavor as I was hooked on the pineapple.  I started with just Dole Whip in a cup, but upon later visits back to this stand I tried the float which was even better.  They fill a larger cup half way with pineapple juice and then pour in the Dole Whip.  Truly amazing I even found a Dole Whip air freshener for my car in a gift shop, it’s not quite the same but as close as I can get in Jersey.  The only thing is that you can only get these a couple of places through the entire resort.  This one in Magic Kingdom, at the Polynesian Resort, and at Tamu Tamu in Animal Kingdom.

With Dole Whip in hand I watched my family ride the magic carpets without any issue and as soon as they got off it was time to use up our first Fastpass for Pirates of the Caribbean.  After that we made our way quickly over towards Cinderella’s Castle and over to the new Fantasyland.  We had a dining reservation for lunch at the popular Be Our Guest restaurant in Beast’s Castle.  The restaurant was really beautiful to look at and was fun to sit and eat inside.  The food was also very good,

Above is the famous Rose from the movie Beauty and the Best with falling petals and all.  After lunch we headed towards the Big Top Circus area so the kids could check out the Dumbo ride.  Unfortunately Hanna was getting tired and was getting cranky.  While my brother-in-law look my niece on Dumbo I took Hanna in the stroller for a walk to try to see if she would fall asleep for a nap.  We headed into the Big Top Souvenirs tent and I found the next machine on my list.

Big Top Souvenirs

This machine was another 4 design hand crank model.  The four designs are all circus related with the usual Disney character.  Strongman Donald, Trapeze Minnie, the Great Goofini, and Ringmaster Mickey.  After leaving the tent Hanna was still on the cusp of going to sleep so I look her for a stroll back towards Cinderella’s castle to check out some other machines.

First we went into Sir Mickey’s which is a narrow little store that has the usual gifts and things to buy.  The machine was located right near one of the check out counters so it was a little crowded to try to use.

Sir Mickey's

The machine has 3 penny designs.  2015 Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey, Snow White, and Elsa from Frozen.  We walked across the crowded walkway to the adjacent store called Castle Couture for another machine.

Castle Couture

Another 3 penny designs included: Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and Rapunzel from Tangled.  With these coins pressed I checked Hanna and she was fast asleep.  I headed back over towards the Big Top Circus and the rest of my family was watching my niece Ava ride on Dumbo.

After she got off my family had decided they wanted to head back to the resort for a rest before coming back for dinner later on that evening.  My wife and I decided to stick around the park for a little while longer and my parents were happy to watch a soundly sleeping Hanna until we got back to the resort.

There were a few rides we did want to check out along with some more machines I needed to visit.  As we separated from the rest of our group we headed to the Flight of Peter Pan ride which we had another Fastpass for and got on with almost no wait at all.  After that we headed towards the Haunted Mansion another favorite of ours but the standby wait time was over 50 minutes so we skipped it but did find the new penny machine.

Haunted Mansion

This machine was located just a little past the Riverboat station outside the Haunted Mansion.  It had four designs that included the hitchhiking ghosts.  Do you know their names?  Ezra, Phineas and Gus (I had to look these up), the fourth design is of Mickey, Donald and Goofy dressed like the hitchhiking ghosts.

This next machine was also new and I didn’t know exactly where it was located and took a little wandering to find it.  Close to Heritage House there is a back alley type of area near the Fastpass kiosk is where this machine located.

Heritage House

One nice thing about this location is there was no one around and plenty of space to spread out and press my coins.  There were 3 designs: Liberty Square Riverboat, Hall of Presidents, and Patriot Mickey.  By this time we noticed the scotch tape being placed along the walkways and knew a parade was about to begin.  We cut along the river area and headed towards Big Thunder Mountain.  This is a ride I actually don’t mind but with no Fastpass the standby line was over 100 minutes and we just didn’t want to wait.  Near the exit to the Huck Finn Raft launch was a 4 design hand crank penny machine.

Big Thunder Mountain

The designs were: Cowgirl Daisy, Cowgirl Minnie, Cowboy Donald and Cowboy Mickey.  Next up was Splash Mountain.  I was forced to ride this as a child with my sister who loves these types of rides but my wife wasn’t too keen on it so we just stood and watch people come down the big drop.  We then walked back behind Splash Mountain past the Frontierland Railroad Station to a gift shop that has 2 machines.  One located near the restrooms and the other further back by the Splash Mountain Photo Preview area.

Splashdown Photo 01

Most of the designs are Splash Mountain themed which is cool.  The first machine has: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, 2015 Chip & Dale, and Splash Mountain logo.  The second machine included: Mickey and friends riding Splash Mountain, Mickey and Minnie splashing water, and Brer Rabbit and friends on Splash Mountain.

By this time we were getting a little tired ourselves and wanted to make sure we had enough time to get back to our resort and rest before heading back into the park to eat.  We headed back towards Main Street and towards the exit.  Just after exiting the park there is a Newsstand that had a penny machine.

Newstand

When we first entered the park I tried to use this machine but it was being worked on by a cast member.  Luckily when we were leaving it was working perfectly.  The designs are: Cinderella, Tinker Bell and Peter Pan.  With those coins in hand we then grabbed the monorail one stop to our resort and joins our family for some much needed down time.

A couple of hours later the kids were all awake and ready to go.  We headed back on the monorail into the Magic Kingdom and didn’t have far to go.  Our diner reservations were at Tony’s Town Square which is an Italian restaurant themed after Tony from Lady and the Tramp.  This place was packed, and even through we had a reservation still needed to wait about 10 minutes or so, which seems so much longer when you have antsy kids and an empty stomach.  I walked Hanna over hear the restrooms where the restaurant had a machine.

Tony's Town Square

Hanna helped me press the pennies which included: Lady, Tramp, and the whole Lady & the Tramp gang.  We were then seated shortly after and enjoyed our meal.  Our service was a little slow but I just attributed that to the place being really busy.  Most of my family had the chicken Parmesan which was really tasty, and my wife tried a flatbread pizza which she also really enjoyed.

After diner my sister and brother-in-law were ready to check out the park but the kids seems like they wanted to head back to our room.  My parents offered to take them back and watch them until it was bed time.  We thanked them and were off to check out the Haunted Mansion.  This ended up being a great time to go on as the wait was posted as being only 10 minutes.

After the Haunted Mansion we went towards Splash Mountain.  My brother-in-law was taking my sister on who seemed a little apprehensive in her old age (thanks Karma).  They had a Fastpass but it wasn’t available for another hour so they decided to wait for Big Thunder Mountain which was about a 40 minute wait.  They said they would text us when they were on Splash Mountain so we could head to the bridge and watch them plummet over the falls.

I took my wife’s hand and lead her towards the Frontierland Shooting Arcade but cut through to the Dole Whip sand.  She got just the Dole whip cup while I got the float.  We sat right along the shooting arcade and just watched everything going on around us while we enjoyed our tasty new treat.  My phone eventually buzzed letting us know they were on Splash Mountain so we headed over to watch.  Their official picture was another great source of amusement.

By this time is was getting late and we figured we should probably head back.  As we walked along Main Street we headed into the Emporium to check out some souvenirs.  There are 3 machines in the Emporium but I only needed 2 of them.

Emporium 01  Emporium 02

The first machine worked perfectly and had designs of Mickey with a Bow Tie, Cinderella’s Castle, and Minnie Mouse.  Unfortunately the second machine was Out of Order.  The designs included 2015 Cinderella’s Castle, Let the Memories Begin, and Anna & Elsa from Frozen.  In my previous post I mentioned new plaques on some of the machines saying you could text about out-of-order machines.  So I sent the text and received a quick confirmation back.  I wasn’t going to wait around, but we did have our schedule set to come back into the Magic Kingdom on our last day before heading home.  I was able to get these coins during that trip.

We paid for a few souvenirs and then headed back to our room for some much needed sleep.  It had been a busy day and I was able to visiting all the machines I needed to.  With only one machine not available I was pretty happy with the outcome.
