2020 Nickel Set – Trolley Treats California Adventure, CA

Not too long ago I was able to get my hands on the new 2020 Nickel set from Disneyland.  Then shortly after that, the other set was made available over in the California Adventure park.

This new set of pressed nickels can be found in the usual location called Trolley Treats.

The designs on these new coins are similar in style to the ones found over in Disneyland which I really like.

The images include Minnie Mouse inside the 0 of 2020, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, and the Carthay Circle Theater.

Will this be the only new coins we see in the West Coast parks this year?  Hopefully not as they really do come up with some great designs.  The detail is really amazing, and I do enjoy the backstamps they put on most of the coins now.  I’m crossing my fingers that new coins will be released on a more frequent schedule.

2019 Holiday Nickels – Disneyland and California Adventure

With the dry spell of very few new pressed coins at Disneyland this year, I was a bit worried the annual Holiday pressed nickel designs may not be released.  Thankfully just a week ago or so I was proven incorrect and it was documented online that the new designs were out.

The first set is available over in Disneyland Park at the Main Street Penny Arcade.  I really like this set, it has designs of Mickey with the word Noel, Minnie Mouse with the word Joy, and the third design with both of them together and two candy canes formed into a heart.

The reverse side of each of these coins says Happy Holidays 2019.

Not too far away over in Disney California Adventure in the Kingswell Camera shop is the second set of pressed nickels.  This set has images of Tinker Bell saying Celebrate the Season, Chip and Dale as the Snow Bros., and Mickey feeding some reindeer.

The reverse image on this set also says Happy Holidays 2019 but inside a Tree Ornament which is pretty cool.

I always look forward to these sets and anxiously await their return each year.  I was a bit worried they may not arrive but once they did I made to pick up a set for my collection as soon as possible.  These are definitely only for a limited time and we just never know how long they will stay out in the parks so get your set quickly!

Happy Holidays!

2019 Nickel Set – Trolley Treats California Adventure, CA

What has been going on over in California with the Disneyland pressed coins this year?

It has just seemed like month after month pass by with no new coins being released.  Then all of a sudden I get word that the 2019 Nickel set in the California Adventure park was released.

2019??…but it’s October and there are only a few months left before 2020.  Are these going to be removed shortly for the Holiday set?  So many questions that unfortunately I just don’t have answers for.

This new set of pressed nickels can be found in the Jolly Trolley Treats store in Disney California Adventure park.  They replace the 2018 versions that you can read about here.

What I would recommend is getting this set as soon as possible.  Their release schedule of coins seems to be all over the place so who knows how long this set will be available. Now we just need to see if / when the 2019 Disneyland set will be released.  At this rate, they may almost be better off skipping 2019 and just go directly for 2020 to get ahead of the game.

2018 Holiday Nickels – Disneyland and California Adventure

This is going to be a quick post because well the holiday’s are over and we have a  lot of other things to see and do with the new year upon us.  But these coins were part of a strange situation that we don’t know much about and made them a bit of a hot commodity this year.

On December 21st it was reported that the pressed nickel set was released in the California Adventure park at Jolly Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street.

As always they have a nice backstamp on each of the pressed coins with a bit of holiday decoration.  I only noticed after taking the above pictures of this set that the Mickey and Minnie designs go together with Mickey holding some Mistletoe and Minnie leaning in to give him a kiss.  Kind of a cute set within the set.

Then Christmas came and went with no Disneyland set.  Followed shortly after by New Years coming and going and still no Disneyland set.

Then on January 2nd the Disneyland Holiday Nickel set finally appears in the Main Street Penny Arcade.

Similar backstamp for the Disneyland coins, and to be honest even the front designs are very similar with the characters just in different positions.

The strange thing is that these coins were then pulled off-stage only a week later on January 8th.  So these sets were only available for a very short time, especially the Disneyland set which was only a week.  Luckily I was able to get a set from a friend in California, but just be aware that if you are looking for these on eBay or another aftermarket merchant the cost may be higher than usually due to this limited availability.  I’m not sure if there was a problem getting the designs made, or if they had to scrap other designs and that’s why we got similar ones.  Either way it was still nice to keep this annual tradition going and hopefully next year the machines will be available for just a bit longer allowing more people to press a set.

NEW Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff Pressed Pennies – Disney California Adventure

It didn’t take too long for the second rumors pressed penny set to make its appearance at the new Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure park.  I recently posted about the first set available at Knick’s Knacks, and was able to just get a set of the new pennies.

This new machine can be found in the newly opened Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff candy store.

In side there is a quite the selection of Pixar merchandise like t-shirts, plush toys and all the other standard items.  But the main draw for this new store was all the candy and snack items themed around your favorite Pixar characters.

After you have indulged in your sugar fix with the cute Bing Bong candy apples, or Wall-E and Eve cake pops make sure to head over and press a set of these new pennies.  The set is themed around the Inside Out movie and has images of Joy, Bing Bong and Anger.

The back of each coin also has the same backstamp with the Pixar Lamp and Ball.  This is the same design that is on the back of the other Pixar Pier pennies at Knick’s Knacks.

Inside Out was a movie that I enjoyed when I first saw it, and seems to get better each time I watch it.  I’m glad to see these new fun designs around this movie.  There are still quite a few other Pixar movies that haven’t been given the pressed penny treatment so hopefully this is a new area of the park that can help solve that problem.

NEW Pixar Pier Pressed Pennies – Disney California Adventure

You know what we haven’t talked about in a while?  New pressed coins at Disneyland.  They don’t usually have as many new coins as the parks in Florida, but so far there have only been the two 2018 dates sets that were released months ago.  I’m not sure the reasoning behind so few new designs coming out, but thankfully that came to an end late last week.

On June 23rd, 2018 was the grand opening of the new Pixar Pier over at Disney California Adventure.  This area was previously knows as Paradise Pier, but has been given a facelift.

As you walk into Pixar Pier you will find a gift shop called Knick’s Knacks.

It contains all things Pixar, and has a lot of new unique items.  Most of the Pixar characters are represented here and the theming is really cute inside.

Also found inside is the new pressed penny machine.  The designs on these new pennies include Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Violet with Dash.  Almost as if they timed it with the release of the new Incredibles 2 movie….hmmm coincidence?

If you have been following the new Disneyland pressed coins over the last few years you know they have really pushed the backstamp designs on all new coins.  These make sure a nice added image on each of the coins, and helps theme the new coins together in mini sets.  These new coins have the Pixar Lamp (Luxo Jr) and the Pixar ball.

It has definitely been longer than we would like for new pennies to be made available, but these were a nice surprise.  Hopefully more new coins are on the way.  There is a rumor of another new machine that is supposed to be in another gift shop that has yet to open in Pixar Pier.  Let’s hope it doesn’t take too much longer.

2018 Nickel Set – Trolley Treats California Adventure, CA

Ask and you shall receive.  I had just finished writing the previous post about the Main Disneyland 2018 nickels and I received a message that the California Adventure nickels came out.  Unfortunately I can’t fly out to California as often as I would like so instead I called in a favor and was able to have a work associate stop by and press a set.

The machine is located over at the Jolly Trolley Treats candy store which is the same location these coins were found last year.

As you can see from the picture above the designs on this second set of dates coins includes Mickey, the Trolley, and Grizzly Peak.

Flipping these coins over you can find a really nice backstamp of Walt and Mickey.  It seems that these will be the only two sets of 2018 dated coins this year which follows the same trend as the last few years.  The designs on all these coins are really amazing and each year seem to get better and more detailed.  Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long before some more new designs are released at the Disneyland parks.

2017 Holiday Nickels – Disneyland and California Adventure

It’s that time of year again and as Christmas is  almost here, Disneyland has released their annual Holiday Nickel sets.  As with previous years the first set of nickels released were available at the Main Street Penny Arcade.

The images are of Mickey & Minnie Seasons Greetings 2017, Donald Duck Happy Holidays 2017, and Tinker Bell Happy New Year! 2018.

The backstamp on each of these nickels is the Disneyland Park logo with a snowflake and mistletoe.

Walking across the promenade over to California Adventure you can find the second set of holiday nickels.

The machine can be found in the Kingswell Camera shop.  The designs are of a Toy Story Alien Ornament Seasons Greetings 2017, Tow Mater Holiday Cheer 2017, and Lightning McQueen Happy New Year 2018.

Similar to the other backstamp this one has the California Adventure logo with snowflake and mistletoe.

I say this every year but these really are a cool little set and looking forward to them has become an annual event that lots of collectors enjoy.  Make sure you get a set of each before they disappear for another year.

Have a very Merry Christmas, and Holiday season!!

Gone Hollywood Gifts (Marvel & Star Wars Sets) – California Adventure, CA

Back over on the west coast in Disney California Adventure there are two new pressed quarter machines.  In the Gone Hollywood Gift shop there was originally one machine that had a fairly new set of Star Wars designs which you can read about here.  I thought they may replace that initial machine, but these two are in additional to it making this quite the hot spot.

The first set is of a few popular Marvel Characters.  The images on these coins include Spiderman, Captain American and Black Widow.

The backstamp on these coins has the California Adventure logo, and the slogan Summer of Heroes.

The second set of new designs are a collection of Star Wars silhouettes.  The images include Yoda, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker & Dark Vader.

This one image of Luke and Vader is really cool and has one of the most iconic phrases in all of cinematic history.  “I am your Father”.

The backstamp on these coins is o the Star Wars logo with stars all around it, which is similar to the other Star Wars coins here.

Another fantastic addition to your collection and I like the addition of some Marvels designs.  There has been a bit of a lull in new coins coming to the California parks but I’m hoping this is the calm before the storm.  I always find new coins come in batches out here.  Keep checking back for more updates.

2017 Nickel Set – Trolley Treats California Adventure, CA

Just this past week the second set of 2017 dated Nickels was made available at Disney California Adventure Park.  I have heard rumors that California will be soon dropped from the name of this park which seems a little strange, but I don’t get paid the big bucks to make those decisions.

Located over at the Trolley Treats Candy store is where you will be able to access this new machine, and while you’re there may as well pick up a candy apple or other sweet treat.

As I mentioned above this machine has 3 nickel designs available for pressing.  California Screamin’, Paradise Pier, and A Bug’s Land.  All of the coins also include 2017 which means these will only be around for a limited time.
