Bass Pro Shop Denver Pressed Pennies | Colorado Trip

Well it’s finally here, our last day in Denver is coming to a close and we were about to head out to the Airport. We had to be out of our Cabin by mid morning, and our flight wasn’t until later in the evening so we figured why not try and kill a little time with one last stop…for some pennies.

Just along the highway we had to take towards the airport was a bit of an outlet mall and it included one of my guilty pleasures a Bass Pro Shop. Now I’ve said this in the past, I’m not a hunter, fisherman, or camper but these stores are just fascinating.

These are huge mega stores with men’s apparel, women’s apparel and so much more.

Candy, hot sauce, snacks, and a huge select of jerky possibly only rivaled by a Buc-ee’s store.

One of my favorite sections of these stores is their BBQ section. All the different smokers, grills , charcoal, wood flavors, rubs, and sauces it’s all here.

Here’s a quick overview of the main section of the store as seen from the second floor. It’s almost intimidating when you first walk inside.

Plus did I mention that the stores are immaculately clean and organized. Staff is always nearby to help if you have questions and most of the times they are just checking in to see how you are doing even if you are just browsing.

My daughters always like the large tanks filled with all sorts of different fresh water fish. Most of the stores have a bench or set of chairs right in front for your viewing pleasure, or just to take a bit of a break during your visit.

Of course sticking with the outdoor theme, and the large hunting sections within the store there is a lot of taxidermy animals. It’s almost like being in a Natural History museum and the details go on and on. We were enjoying the above couple of bear before my daughter eventually pointed out the wild cat up on the rocks. Then even in the lower bushed you can find creatures like beavers, squired or any number of other woodland creatures. It’s very impressive how they have these displays setup.

Before we left of course we had to find the pressed penny machine. In this location it was back near the large fish tank and honestly pretty easy to spot.

The designs are cute and similar to some of the other locations, but they do make sure an include the location Denver, CO which I loved and makes a nice addition to my Bass Pro Shops mini collection of pennies.

Well it was finally that time to make our way back towards the airport and eventually home to Florida. I said it many times over these posts but this was really an unbelievable trip. My wife researched, booked and set everything up for us and she did an amazing job. Everything she does she puts in so much though into making sure everyone will have something or somewhere to enjoy. It wouldn’t have been the amazing trip it was, if it wasn’t for her. Where are we off to next, well you’ll just have to stay tune.

Keep on Pressing!

  1. Hey, David. We took a trip to Denver in 2022 where I did some penny hunting (I guess you are a hunter after all) so some of our stops overlapped. Thanks again.

    • That’s fantastic. we really enjoyed our trip and would love to go back to Colorado sometime in the future. It’s good to hear that some of the penny machines have stuck around since your visit. So many times I find that machines end up not working great or even just get removed without any notice. Do you collect any specific penny themes or just any you come across? Thanks for reaching out and following our travels!

      • I look up the machines in the places I visit and try to go to as many as I can, provided that they aren’t too far out of the way. Often, I don’t visit the attraction itself.

In Denver, we went to the Colorado History Center, Rocket Fizz, the US Mint, the Molly Brown House, the Museum of Natural History & Science, Coors Field, Red Rocks, Bass Pro Shops (I’m not an outdoorsman either although I go to many Bass Pro Shops now), and many in Estes Village/Rocky Mountains (even though many pennies look the same).

I’ve been casually collecting my whole life, but it wasn’t until a trip to Boston in 2021 when I caught the bug; I wanted to get every penny in the area. I found your site because your article on organizing your pennies in binders popped up in a search and I knew this was the solution to replace my numerous penny passport books.

Now I have 4 binders with printed penny labels. It was a lot of work, but I really got absorbed in the process and loved it. The binders (with themed fonts for the spine labels) are:
        1) California (where I live)
        2) Outside CA / International
        3) Sports / Theme Parks / Zoos
        4) Currency (old US coins and bills plus currency from places I’ve traveled)

My favorite pennies are from sports teams. I love taking stadium tours and you can reliably count on each team having pennies. The sports ones tend to be well designed using the team logos, mascots, stadiums, and cities.

It’s not often that I get a new penny so your posts are great reminders of how fun the hobby is. The emails come at a good frequency, are a good length, have good pics, and you’re a good writer. Although there are not many comments, please know that your posts are appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you again.
